Occupational therapy is a client-centred health profession concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation. The primary goal of occupational therapy is to enable people to participate in the activities of everyday life. Electives can get experience from local staff and add it to their previous training. We work with different intuitions and organizations to ensure the requirements of your elective. You could be placed in a day-care center for children who may have varieties of learning disabilities and special needs. The focus of the electives will be on developing independence and integration into mainstream society.
Starting from.(the starting price) per person* per week*
We make sure to provide safe and comfortable accommodation in and around Kathmandu. All accommodation we provide will be thoroughly checked in terms of safety and security. The accommodation will either be in a serviced apartment, homestay or a hotel. This will be mentioned to you in advance as to what option you would want to choose. If it is a serviced apartment you will share the apartment with 2- 4 dental students. You will have a single bed and common bathroom. If you want to sign up as a couple, you will have to let us know in advance so we can provide you with the same room. • Food and drinking water will be provided. There will be a cooked meal for dinner. Breakfast will be self-catering with all necessary cereals, fruits, juice etc. provided.• Transportation (one way to the clinic) will be provided. There will be a shared car to pick you up every morning at a said time to drop you to placement. Since you will have plans for the afternoon, the transport back home will be for you to arrange, about which we will give you proper orientation. • There will be a full day cultural and clinical orientation. • There will be a Placement Coordinator from Around Good People, available for any assistance and help and counseling for both clinical and social needs of the volunteering visitor. • Further there will also be a clinical mentor who will be supervising the procedures. Each student/volunteer will be assigned to one local dentist as a mentor, to take care of the clinical assistance at all times. • AGP Travel & Tour desk will help and assist the visiting volunteers, if need be, to plan and make necessary holiday/trekking trips before/during/after the placement. We will be able to advice you on anything you would want to make you feel at home and around good people.
We do not provide language lessons as 2 weeks will be too short to catch up any of the words or phrases. We do however provide students with hand-outs with necessary translation. If you think a language lesson will/might help you while here, we will provide one language lesson in a week free of cost to help you brush up on what you learn. The dentists in the hospital working with you will speak English (enough to communicate and translate) and translate any difficulties and patient problems for you. We also offer a 2 nights 3 days jungle safari package over the weekend in the 2 weeks dental outreach package to let you experience the country in terms of tourism as well. The safari package will include: transport to the safari park, elephant back safari, Canoe ride, visit to the elephant breeding centre, nature walk and bird watching, cultural dance, elephant bathing (depending on the month and the situation while there) etc..
